Fun with Calories

February 21, 2009 Comments off

I’m frequently asked how people who exercise heavily but still want to lose weight on The Silhouette Solution can adjust their caloric intake to compensate for the extra energy expended in exercise. Similar issues arise for people who are very overweight, since a larger body needs more calories just to get through the day. Click here for a 30-minute audio that describes how to adjust The Silhouette Solution for athletes and the seriously overweight. During the call, I give you some equations to calculate the calories, but to make it easier, I’ve prepared a simple spreadsheet that you can download here. Just plug in the numbers, and you’re good to go! You’ll need Excel or a similar program for the spreadsheet to work.

Another flawed vitamin study creates needless confusion

February 12, 2009 Comments off

You saw the headlines: “Vitamins don’t work!”  ”New studies show vitamins do nothing to prevent heart disease and cancer.” It makes me angry to see the “Chicken Little” headline writers again sowing seeds of fear and confusion. So this posting is really about two things: researchers who publish unhelpful findings using faulty methods, and journalists that take the easy road and follow the party line without making even a half-hearted attempt to uncover the truth. Moving Towards Maintenance – Keeping Your New Silhouette for Life!

February 10, 2009 Comments off

As participants in the Silhouette Solution approach their weight management goal, it’s important for them to understand how to “carefully calibrate” ANY type of food they might choose. Yes, you’re right: some are impossible to calibrate properly, and that’s where the choices begin. However, the good news is that there are tons of great options out there, and that’s why we didn’t call this program a diet – we called it a solution, because it IS the solution to yo-yo dieting. Click here to hear the call and understand what to do once you reach your goal weight . . . Enjoy!

Femerex – Support for Menopause

February 4, 2009 Comments off

Here’s the 30-minute call I did about our menopause support formula, Femerex.  As I often stress, it’s important for people to realize that we are not attempting to diagnose, treat, cure or mitigate an disease or condition – in this case menopause.  Rather, what we are doing is providing compounds that are known to support the structure and function of the body in that area. By providing these, the body can make its own decisions about how to respond. Good information for all women having trouble with the transition. Enjoy!

Are food allergies overdiagnosed? Commentary by Megan Carter, MD

February 3, 2009 2 comments

Today on one of the morning news shows they had a story about food allergies being overdiagnosed in children.  Of course, it caught my attention.  The point they were making was that the immediate-type reactions (IgE) are being overdiagnosed by doctors with skin tests and blood tests.  These IgE reactions are the ones that give you hives and make your throat swell. They can be deadly.  When you have an IgE reaction you have to avoid that food at all cost. Read more…
