One of the pioneers of integrative medicine, Dr. Macallan has played a role in developing or managing a wide range of facilities combining alternative and conventional medicine, and has served in both the commercial and academic sectors. His last academic management appointment was as Chief Medical Officer of Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona. He has been a Clinical Associate Professor at Southwest College and an Instructor at his alma mater, National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Macallan has been involved in complementary and alternative medicine for nearly 30 years.
Dr. Macallan was the editorial coordinator of IBIS software reference for alternative medicine, the first fully comprehensive professional computerized guide to CAM therapies, published in 1992 and recently updated. He served for eight years as a Trustee of National College of Naturopathic Medicine, and as Vice President of the California Naturopathic Doctors Association.
An accomplished writer and broadcaster, Dr. Macallan, a native of Scotland, previously worked as a journalist for the British Broadcasting Corporation. He received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Science from the University of Stirling, Scotland in 1976.
